Ford presented a new pick-up, which will go on sale in autumn this year. The manufacturer hopes the new compact Maverick will appeal to sedan buyers after it dropped passenger cars from its lineup. Ford Maverick is small and looks good. It has a black grille on base models and black and gray on other models. 17-inch steel wheels come standard but you can also buy silver or black 17 and 18-inch wheels. The bed of the vehicle is 4.5 feet. If you put the tailgate down you will get a 6-feet floor space.
The Ford Maverick 2022 is based on unibody construction. This is one of the cheapest pickup trucks in the Ford lineup. It is positioned under the mid-size Ranger. The price for Ford Maverick will start at $21 000. However, this truck is not the only small pickup and it has its competitors: Hyundai Santa Cruz and Honda Ridgeline. So, we will check out how Ford Maverick 2022 stands against other unibody pickups.
Let’s start with the price. Ford has a clear advantage here. The base model of Ford Maverick will cost $21 490, the XLT model — $23 775, and the Lariat model — $26,985. And the competitors: the cost of Hyundai Santa Cruz is expected to cost from $25 000. And Honda Ridgeline costs $37 665.
As far as size, Honda Ridgeline is the biggest of the three trucks, Ford Maverick is second, and Hyundai Santa Cruz is the smallest. Maverick is built on a wheelbase that is 16 inches longer than Bronco Sport. It is narrower and sits lower.
The engine in Maverick is 191 hp, the gas engine is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder. This applies to all trims of the vehicle. It uses a CVT — continuously variable automatic transmission. You can also have a turbocharged 2.0-liter with an eight-speed automatic. The hybrid models will only come with front-wheel drive.
Honda Ridgeline has a 3.5-liter V-6 with 280 hp and 262 pound-feet of torque, and all-wheel drive is standard. The engine of Hyundai Santa Cruz is similar to Maverick. As a standard option, there is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 190 hp and 180 pound-feet of torque. The turbocharged engine is a 2.5-liter four with 275 hp and 310 pound-feet. The vehicle comes standard with front-wheel drive, and there is an option to have an all-wheel drive.
Towing and Payload
The Santa Cruz and Ridgeline are more powerful — they can tow up to 5000 pounds. The payload is 1748 on the Hyundai and 1583 pounds on Honda. Ford Maverick’s towing ability is 4000 pounds with the turbo 2.0-liter and up to 2000 pounds with a hybrid powertrain. The payload is 1500.
The Santa Cruz is rated at 23 mpg for the standard four-cylinder engine with all-wheel drive. And Ridgeline is at 22 mpg combined. Ford Maverick has a rating of 40 mpg in the city.
