The 2022 Mercedes Benz GLB offers an impressive set of equipment and features combined in a sleek and affordable package. The GLB uses the same chassis and powertrain as the GLA, which are the turbocharged four-cylinder engine and optional all-wheel-drive system. But what sets it apart is its three-row design, wide cargo capacity, and new design.

The GLB model features a few changes in the 2022 model year, with the highlight being the Premium package. Let’s take a closer look.

Overview

The 2022 Mercedes Benz GLB comes with two trim levels, which are the GLB250 and GLB250 4Matic. The 4Matic is simply a different version from the former, so there is only one trim level. The vehicles in this collection come with an impressive touchscreen infotainment system, with different technology and driver assistance features.

The prices offered by the 2022 Mercedes Benz GLB are also affordable. The 4Matic is the all-wheel-drive version, while the GLB250 is the rear-wheel-drive option.

Characteristics

Power and Performance

The 2022 Mercedes Benz GLB offers 221 horsepower, with its turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine. This is combined with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and front- or all-wheel drive.

The vehicle is not exactly sporty, but it can be easily handled and offers easy manoeuvring. The engine is great for driving on- and off-road.

Interior, Infotainment, and Cargo

The interior of the 2022 GLB is spacious, comfortable and attractive, so it ticks all the necessary boxes. The interior offers up to 20 cubic feet of cargo space, and when you fold the back seats down, it expands to 62 cubic feet.

The interior also comes with a power front seat, a unique steering wheel with the tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, and dual-zone climate control. If you want to get a third row, heated seats or ventilated seats and other luxury features, you would have to spend extra.

The Mercedes Benz GLB does not have a lot of interior equipment, but you would be quite impressed by the infotainment features. The infotainment system has a standard 7.0-inch digital gauge display and 7.0-inch touchscreen, but with the Premium package, you get 10.3-inch touchscreens and a standalone colour head-up display.

You can easily connect your phone to this vehicle with the four USB-C ports, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Bluetooth. You can also add a wireless charging pad for an extra cost.

Fuel Economy

With the front-wheel drive, the 2022 GLB offers 23 mpg and 31 mpg for city and highway, and 26 mpg combined. For the all-wheel drive, the ratings are 23 mpg and 30 mpg instead. The fuel economy ratings are average and perform better in real life than the ratings say.

Warranty and Maintenance

Mercedes Benz does not provide complimentary maintenance like its competitors but provides a much better warranty coverage than other choices. The limited and powertrain warranty is the same, set at four years or 50,000 miles.

Price

The GLB250 is set at approximately $39,650, but if you go for the 4Matic model, you spend an extra $2000. Since the 4Matic offers way better and luxury features than the front-wheel-drive model, it is an ideal choice for anyone looking for a good balance of cost and performance.

The 4Matic model becomes even better if you use the Premium Package because it offers an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, keyless entry, gauge cluster, power-folding side-view mirrors, and dual 10.3-inch digital displays. The 2022 Mercedes Benz GLB is quite affordable, especially since it offers top features.

Is 2022 Mercedes Benz GLB Reliable?

The 2022 Mercedes Benz GLB is not as reliable as you’d expect for a luxury vehicle, and it’s even harder to maintain it because of the expenses. This is because there is no complimentary maintenance provided. When it comes to safety, the 2022 GLB offers different features that make it a dependable vehicle to rely on.

Safety

The 2022 GLB has gone through crash tests from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. It also comes with different driver assistance and safety features. You can benefit from cruise control, adaptive braking, active brake assist, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and active blind spot assist.

What People Are Saying About the 2022 Mercedes Benz GLB

The 2022 Mercedes Benz GLB has been praised for different reasons since it was released, one of which is its spacious interior and cargo space. It also has a very comfortable interior and the latest tech fittings to enhance your ride. All of these are encased in a handsome vehicle with strong engine performance to give a seamless driving experience.

What most enthusiasts complained about when purchasing the 2022 Mercedes Benz GLB is its expensive maintenance and boring driving. But the latter is only said by those who were looking for a sporty car and driving satisfaction. Although the interior is spacious, it becomes tight when the third row is added to it, leaving you with limited space. The base model is not well-equipped too, which is why the 4Matic model is recommended.

Competitors

One of the competitors of the 2022 Mercedes Benz GLB is the BMW X3, offering a similar interior design and space to the former. It is also often compared to the Mercedes GLA and GLB classes, probably because they share similar features and are from the same company.

Other competitors to look out for include the Volvo XC40, BMW X1 and BMW X2.
