Kia has unveiled the 5th generation Sportage crossover. The car has changed dramatically both outside and inside. Korean automaker Kia has released photos of the new 2023 Sportage. Kia specialists from South Korea, the USA, China, and Germany worked on the exterior design of the car. The model received a radiator grille merging with optics, arched DRLs, new bumpers, and modified lights. There are matrix LED headlights. The wheel sizes will be between 17 and 19 inches in diameter.
Inside the car, there is a modified climate control unit with touch buttons, a rotating transmission control knob as well as a curved monopane that combines 12.3-inch displays of a fully digital dashboard and multimedia system. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality is expected to be on all models. A Terrain Mode is present which automatically adjusts the car settings to various driving conditions. Harman Kardon premium stereo and wireless smartphone charging will also be available. The interior will have a stylish two-tone color scheme.
Overall dimensions of the model are: length – 4660 mm, width – 1865 mm, height – 1660 mm. The wheelbase is 2755 mm. The volume of the trunk without the rear seats folded (if you wish, they can be folded into a flat floor) is 637 liters. Also, the car will be available in the all-terrain modification Sportage X-Line: it has a different design of bumpers, lining on the sidewalls, and massive roof rails.
The line of power units of the new Kia Sportage 2022 includes a 1.6-liter TGDI turbo engine with direct injection and 180 hp (264 Nm) and a 2.0-liter diesel engine (186 hp and 416 Nm), equipped with advanced turbocharging technology. The gasoline unit is combined with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed preselective “robot” with two clutches, and the diesel unit is combined with an 8-speed automatic. Later, a plug-in hybrid version may come out with a 1.6-liter turbocharged internal combustion engine and an electric motor with a total capacity of 226 horsepower. The new Kia Sportage shares a platform with Hyundai Tucson.
The equipment of the car will include front airbags for the driver and front passenger, side airbags and curtain airbags, lower side airbags, as well as a set of safety systems and Drive Wise driver assistance, including advanced adaptive cruise control, a system for monitoring blind spots, a function of parking assistance, an emergency braking system that can recognize cars, pedestrians and cyclists.
The official presentation of the new Kia Sportage 2023 will take place in July 2021. It will be available in the showrooms sometime early next year.
