Everyone loves cars; apart from the fact that they are incredibly fantastic and add to our aesthetic appeal, they also make our lives easier. You need to go to the supermarket, but you are too tired to walk or take the bus? You can hop into your car and drive there. It is also a great way to get to events on time as public transport will surely not be as fast.

Unfortunately, having a car that does not run is like not having a car. You cannot get to your destinations as quickly as you would like, which would be quite frustrating. You may not want to fix it because the total cost will probably be more than the vehicle’s current market value. So, what do you do when you have a car that does not run?

And let us face it; you will barely find anyone that wants to buy a beaten-up junk car except at a price that may not be beneficial to you. The good thing is that this article shows you the different ways to get rid of a car that does not run, and you may even make some money in the process. So, keep reading to find out what you need to know.

Different Ways to Get Rid of a Car that Does Not Run

Before you decide to get rid of your car that does not run, you should first evaluate the vehicle. Your mechanic should carry out a comprehensive inspection on the vehicle to see if it is still worth repairing, and if it is not, you should get an estimated value of the car parts.

Junk Removal

Junk removal should be your last resort because it will be the last time you see or have access to your vehicle again. However, it is the quickest way to get rid of a car that does not run and requires minimal effort. You need to contact a junk removal service, and they will come to your doorstep to tow the vehicle away.

The downside here is that you will have to pay for the service, although you could probably find a junk removal service that will pay cash for any junk car. The car will be taken apart for any valuable parts and then put in a crusher in a junkyard. Ensure that you get the best deal for any junk removal service you choose to go with but keep in mind that selecting this method means you will not make any money from your decision.

A Car Dealer

Another way to get rid of your non-running car is to have it towed to the nearest car dealership and either sell it to them or trade it with a new car. The downside about car dealerships is that most of them will only consider your offer if you plan on purchasing another vehicle from them. They will reduce the price of the new car once you decide to buy it.

The car dealership will evaluate and inspect your car to find out its value and if the parts are worth something. Once this is done, you will be given a quote, and if it is not worth it, your car will be towed out of their station with all the bills on you. A car dealership is not your best option if you do not plan to purchase a new vehicle.

Sell the Parts

Your car may not be able to run anymore, but that does not mean it does not have valuable parts. You should do a close inspection to find out if the auto parts are worth something. If they are, you will be able to get rid of the car and make money during the process.

It is advisable to hire a professional, especially if you have zero knowledge about car parts, to not damage the parts while taking the vehicle apart. Although hiring a mechanic will take some money away from you, it is always better to be safe than sorry. Ensure to do the necessary research before you decide to sell your car parts.

There is usually a high demand for the parts of old cars, so finding a buyer should not be too difficult; you can either sell it to local buyers or online prospects. You will also find someone who wants to buy all the parts at a discounted price, but it is better to sell them individually if you want a bigger payout. At the end of the day, the decision is yours to make.

Scrap your Car

Scrapping your car is a substitute option for selling the parts; if you do not have time to inspect and evaluate the vehicle, you can contact an auto recycling service. You can also do this once you have sold the auto parts and want to get rid of the rest of the car.

The metal in your car should also be worth a decent amount of money, and you will find out that metal recyclers will be willing to pay for the remaining parts of your car. Good recycling service will come to your doorstep to tow the vehicle away and pay you the agreed-upon money.

Donate the Car to Charity

If you have no plans to make money from your non-running car, it is best to donate it to a good cause. You will find tons of charity programs willing to accept beaten-up cars to empower underprivileged people.

They may either dismantle the car for its functioning parts or renovate and repair it to sell at a higher price. If you decide to do this, ensure that your vehicle is not entirely worthless because no one has any use for a car without value.

Conclusion

Once you have decided to get rid of your car because it cannot run anymore, you must weigh all the above methods. A vehicle may not be able to run, but it may have functioning parts that you could sell for a decent amount of money. It is better to get rid of your car and still make money than make nothing.
